I knew Jon Voight was outspoken on matters, especially when it comes to Israel. But he speaks directly to Obama here. I think he is on track on a few things, others I’m just not informed enough to know for sure one way or the other.

Did you know SafePlace Hospital Advocates accompanied more than 250 rape survivors to area hospitals last year? That is only a fraction of the number of survivors who report a rape in Austin–on average at least 2 per day.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month, a month to create awareness that rape and sexual assault are still prevelant and that change is needed. Every one of us can Make a Difference by dispelling myths, showing support to survivors and letting friends and family know about the programs and services SafePlace offers to all sexual assault survivors. By educating others about sexual assault and SafePlace, you can help survivors you may not have known needed help.

This April, join us by completing one of the simple actions below, or share with us how you plan to Make a Difference!
• Take the pledge to join us for Denim Day on April 21st, and ask your colleagues, students and friends to join you in raising awareness about sexual assault misconceptions.
• Order SafePlace palm cards and brochures to hand out to friends or leave a stack for employees and customers to take.
• Talk to your children about the prevelance of sexual assault against young people – in Austin, children under 14 account for nearly 25% of reported rapes or sexual assaults.
• Donate to SafePlace or join us at the Field Day & Festival this Saturday in honor or memory of a sexual assault survivor.
• Register for our site, or follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
